PURPOSE OF POST

LSSC’s Child and Family Service works in partnership with families
to support them to improve relationships and address any concerns with
the goal of meeting agreed outcomes for children and their families.
The CFS provides one to one and group supports to parents and carers,
children, young people and extended family members.

The Family Support Worker will work as part of the Child and Family
Service to provide intensive one to one supports and group-based
supports to families. They may work either in LSSC premises in Henry
Street, in the Southside Child and Family Centre or across both
services.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND

RESPONSIBILITIES

* To assess the needs of children and families engaging with the
service
* To plan, deliver and review programmes of support for
parents/carers, children and young people based on their identified
strengths and needs
* To provide a range of practical services including direct work
with families, advice, guidance and assistance in respect of the
physical, social and emotional development of children and young
people
* To support parents/carers in their parenting role and support
positive parent/child relationships through one to one work (home
visits and centre-based work)
* To fulfill obligations under the Children First Act **Apply on the
website** and all responsibilities under Children First National
Guidance for the Protection and Welfare of Children and under LSSC’s
Child Safeguarding Policy
* To actively manage a caseload and to take the role of lead
practitioner/participant in the Meitheal process as appropriate
* To facilitate group parenting programmes, where appropriate, and
in line with the needs of service users
* To ensure that all notes, records and other information is handled
in line with GDPR requirements
* To adhere to LSSC’s policies, procedures, protocols in relation
to all work within LSSC
* To work flexibly and in partnership with other LSSC staff to
support families
* To work in conjunction with other agencies to provide high
quality, coordinated services to families
* To work as part of the wider LSSC structure and carry out duties
as required
* To attend relevant training, meetings and all supervision sessions
* To actively participate in Performance Development Reviews
* To maintain a high standard of documentation, keeping up to date
file records of work undertaken and ensuring that all reporting
requirements are met fully and on time

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

* Relevant and recognised qualification (Minimum Level 7) in Social
Care, Social Work, or other related discipline
* Post Qualification experience of working with vulnerable
children/families and diverse backgrounds
* Experience of working in partnership with families and carers
* Be a highly motivated individual with excellent communication and
inter-personal skills who has the capacity to engage warmly and
creatively with families
* Have a working knowledge of Tusla Children First and Meitheal
* Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with parents
and families
* Ability to maintain a professional approach and observe
confidentiality at all times.
* Candidates must hold a full Driving License and have a car at
their disposal.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

* Permanent contract subject to 6 months’ probation, Garda Vetting
and continued funding from funding agencies
* Salary: Commensurate with Experience
